Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, ‘Dangal’ is based on the real life story of wrestler Mahavir Singh and his daughters Geeta and Babita Phogat and the relationship between them. The movie will go on floors in September this year.
Bollywood’s Mr Perfectionist Aamir Khan, who has beefed up for the role, as he will be portraying Mahavir Phoghat in ‘Dangal’, recently met the wrestler’s daughters Babita and Geeta Phogat.
“Aamir was very keen to meet them, and all of their schedules finally matched. So the girls came down to Mumbai. Aamir was a gracious host and ensured that they were taken care of. It was an emotional meeting for the trio. They discussed Mahavir’s life, what he had taught the girls, and more” said Aamir’s spokesperson!
Geeta Phogat won country’s first ever gold medal in women’s wrestling in the 55 kg freestyle category at the 2010 Commonwealth Games. And in the senior women world wrestling championship held in Canada in September 2012, Geeta along with her sister Babita won the bronze medals.
Aamir Khan wanted to meet the sisters to know about their father. He had long conversations with his daughters.
“He wants to understand his personality before starting to shoot for the film. The trio had a long conversation, where the girls provided him with insight into their own respective journeys and their lifestyle back home. They stayed in the city for a couple of days and are excited to see how the film will turn out” said Aamir’s spokesperson.
Geeta and Babita were also featured in Aamir Khan’s hit TV series Satyamev Jayate.
