Akshay Kumar who is known for supporting social causes and quality content through his film is now supporting  ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ which gives a message of women empowerment. On the event Akshay said, earlier people used to say ‘Beti Bachao’ but now in coming 5-10 years, it will be ‘Beta Bachao’.

Akshay Kumar was interacting with media at the trailer launch of ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ along with Resul Pookutty and film’s producer Harinder Sikka on Thursday in Mumbai.

When asked what prompted him to associate himself with the film, ‘Nanak Shah Fakir’, Akshay said, “Today we are here to celebrate ‘Ek Onkar’. ‘Ek Onkar’ means there is only one god and that god is your god, whom you follow. It is such a simple thing. This film I saw around 1 year ago and this hasn’t happened in my life that I saw a film twice in one day but this film I saw twice in a day firstly alone and then with my mother. It’s a beautiful film and beautiful belief so I hope the audience will like the film.

“I am not doing this with any kind of intentions because I believe there is only one God. The God whom we believe. This film gives prime importance to women and I think today with the kind of speed women are progressing in India in each field, earlier, we used to say ‘Beti Bachao’ but now I think in coming 5-10 years, it will be ‘Beta Bachao’”

When asked Akshay his spiritual memory or experience as a kid, he said, “My spiritual memory is with my grandmother. I used to live in Chandni Chowk, Old Delhi where my maternal grandmother used to take me Sheeshganj Gurudwara but I didn’t use to listen Gurbani (Prayer) over there. I used to go there to eat prasad but over the years that Gurbani which I used to hear in Gurudwara automatically remained in my system that’s why I have sung a Gurbani in my life which is ‘Nirgun Rakh Liya’. One day I met Bhushan Kumar who is head of T-Series and told him that I want to sing Gurbani and that is how it released and that is the memory I have with me.”

When asked Akshay whether he believes in religion and spirituality, he said, “I just believe in humanity. I just believe in helping others and I just believe in all that”

When asked Akshay whether he thinks that the message Gurunanak has preached through this movie should be adopted by all political parties who try to use religion to create vote-bank politics, he said, “I thoroughly believe in it. There is only one god and that god is yours and all these things in which bringing religion in between should not be done so, I hope everybody follows that”

‘Nanak Shah Fakir’ depicts the story of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder of Sikhism and first of the ten Sikh Gurus. A first-of-its-kind film, it has been depicted through the voice of his friend, companion, and disciple Bhai Mardana.

It will clash with Shoojit Sircar’s romantic drama October that has Varun Dhawan and Banita Sandhu playing the lead pair.
