Bollywood actress Dia Mirza has been selected among the six new influential Sustainable Development Goal advocates, committed to the pursuit of 17 goals on behalf of “peace, prosperity, people, planet, and partnerships.”
The Advocates represent the universal character of the SDGs themselves, hailing from Governments, entertainment, academia, sport, business and activist organizations around the world.
Sharing the news about her new role as advocate with UN, Dia Mirza tweeted, “It is an honour and privilege to be appointed the UN Secretary General’s Advocate of Sustainable Development Goals. I will strive to convey the importance of achieving sustainable development for #Peace #Planet #Prosperity. #GlobalGoals #SDGs @antonioguterres @UN @UNEnvironment”
Apart from Dia Mirza from India, other new Advocates includes, Muhammadu Sanusi II, (Nigeria), Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim (Chad), Edward Ndopu (South Africa), Nadia Murad, (Iraq), Marta Vieira da Silva (Brazil).
Dia Mirza is known for her work in films such as Tumsa Nahin Dekha, Lage Raho Munnabhai, Shootout at Lokhandwala and many more. The actress was last seen in Sanju.
She co-owns a production house, Born Free Entertainment, with her husband Sahil Sangha. Their first film, Love Breakups Zindagi, was released on 7 October 2011.
