Last year due to lack of funding MAMI (Mumbai Academy of Moving Images) had a tough time on its survival until Kiran Rao and Anupama Chopra took the festival on there own strides.
The 17th Jio MAMI film festival was inaugurated by Chief Minister of Maharashtra Shri Devendra Fadnavis at the historical venue of Mumbai Gateway of India.
On the occasion CM Devendra Fadnavis said, “I am happy to formally starting this oldest film festival of Mumbai at the historical venue which was seized few years back and with this ceremony we want to showcase that Mumbai can celebrate without fear and nothing can terrorize Mumbai.”
Expressing his wish to make Mumbai an international entertainment hub he added, “Around 60% of entertainment content comes from Mumbai say it as films, tv or documentary. We wish to make Mumbai as an entertainment hub and have a par excellent facility for any filmmaker who wants to make world film here. I am sure it wont be a distant dream.”
Gracing the occasion many Bollywood actors turned up at the ceremony to show there support to the film festival.
Hrithik Roshan, Katrina Kaif, Vidya balan, Irffan Khan, Rajkumar Hirani, Anil Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Siddharth Malhotra expressed there enthusiasm for the film festival.
