Since the day Dibakar Banerjee and other 11 film makers had returned their National Award in protest of the ‘intolerance’ in the nation the debate on artists is initiated.
Some actors from Bollywood supported the award returning protest and some called it politically driven.
On the occasion of 50th birthday celebration with media, Shahrukh also supported the case and accepted that the intolerance has increased in the country.
Making mark with films like “Dev D”, “Shitan”, “Zindagi Naa Milegi Dobara”, “Shanghai”, “Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani” Kalki is considered a versatile actor in Bollywood.
Keeping her thoughts forward on the current scenario on the increased intolerance in the country at the red carpet of Angry Indian goddess which screened at the MAMI Film Festival in Mumbai on Tuesday, she said,”There is lot of unrest at this moment. We see lot of anger and hatred. Dadri lynching and other situations you read in the newspapers will get you little worried about. I can completely understand why artists are returning their awards because it is not the country where we are scared of saying things. Even if I comment in twitter I see there is lot of hatred even to the simplest of comments. I hope we get over of this time of intolerance.”
Talking further on freedom of speech in the country Kalki added, “As long as you are safe and you have the environment where you are protected from what you say and not fearing for your life for what you say, that’s the kind of environment we need to create in the country.”
