Mega star Amitabh Bachchan launched 9th season of Kaun Banega Crorepati on Wednesday in Mumbai along with Sony Entertainment Channel’s CEO N.P. Singh and show’s Producer and Director Sidhartha Basu. During media interaction, Bachchan stated that “Kaun Banega Crorepati” has been life changer for him just like contestants in the show.
KBC started in 2000 and in that period Bachchan struggled to get work and he was going through serious financial crisis but when KBC offered to him, Bachchan started his never ending second innings with that and today it’s been 17 years and 9 seasons, people can’t think of KBC without him so when asked him about it, he said, “I am just grateful that audience and Sony (Channel) thinks so. I have always been honored and humbled whenever they have approached me for the show. It’s almost like given to me. They have become part of my family and we don’t look at each other as commercial proposition. “Kaun Banega Crorepati” has been life changer for many contestants but I have no qualms admitting that it has also a great life changer for me as well”.
When asked what prompts him to feature on this over the years, he said, “Through this show, I get opportunity to meet people from all walks of life across the country. It gets emotional when I heard the kind of hardships they go through whether it’s a young girl who has been prevented being educated just because she is going to get married and her family thinks that why we should spend money on her education, when I heard these kind of stories I feel very sad for them but despite these social norms which are still prevalent in their villages and when they fight them, come out and sit in front of me and be able to succeed in what they have visioned in their life is so inspiring”
“When I am trying to make a film like Pink, I don’t have to think twice about doing it because I know the kind of circumstances that women go through in this country everyday and if in some way we can put across their message through this game and when they defy social norms which has been pressurized upon them. I think it’s a great feeling and that’s what making me coming on this show all the time”.
Mr. Bachchan also commented on Supreme Court’s landmark decision on Triple Talaq stating it unconstitutional practice, Bachchan said, “I think the judgment speaks for itself and we can’t argue with the law of our country”
When asked him whether emergence of digital media can pose threat to conventional television medium, he said, “No. I don’t think that will happen. With each passing month, almost one new kind of technological advancement taking place in the world. I feel if your content is strong and pure and if people want to watch it then no amount of technological advancement or invention will hinder that”
When asked Mr. Bachchan what issue in the country concerns him most, he said, “I feel poverty is the biggest concern in our country. We all work on this by joining charitable causes on a personal level but I feel all problems of our country would not be solved with the effort of a single person, all of us have to work towards that. The kind of social initiatives I have been associated with, I try to be associated with them as long as possible be it Beti Bachao, Swachh Bharat, Polio, Tuberculosis, Hepatitis because I feel all these causes are really good and I have myself battled with some of these diseases in my life”.
On work front, Amitabh Bachchan is working along with Aamir Khan in Yashraj Films and Vijay Krishna Acharya’s film Thugs of “Hindostaan”
