Of bulls and buffaloes

New Delhi: We are a country that worships animals. Now worshiping is still acceptable, but raping or alleging someone for the same is not. This is where Miss Tanakpur enters the social scenario. “Miss Tanakpur Haazir ho” is a social satire by  journalist turned filmmaker, Vinod Kapri. The unique and the most intriguing thing about the film is the fact that it is based on real-life events. This actually happened in a village of the same name in Uttarakhand. Actor Rahul Bagga, effortlessly played the lead role and veterans like Annu Kapoor, Om Puri and Sanjay Mishra, complete the ensemble with their talents. The story here talks about a village youth and how he is accused of raping a buffalo who also has won a local beauty pageant. This is where the film gets its title from. Tanakpur is a sad yet funny as it is sarcasm overloaded. I’ll suggest Miss Tanakpur to those who are in mood to watch something different and they’ll surely take home a question with them, “who are the bulls and who are the buffaloes?”.
