“Bajirao Mastani” Girl, Priyanka Chopra ushered into foray of international fame and fortune with her singing career and “Quantico”.
Recently news went viral that Priyanka Chopra is roped in as Oscar Presenter of upcoming Academy Award ceremony, making her the first Indian female actress to be bestowed with such an honor.
But this is not entirely true, though we are happy about PC being a Presenter at Oscars, which is indeed a great deal, but she is not the first Indian female actress, it is Persis Khambatta.
Persis Khambatta was an Indian model, actress and author. She was best known for her role as Lieutenant Ilia in the 1979 feature film “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”.
Persis won Femina Miss India at the age of 17, later she became a model for companies such as Air India, Revlon, and Garden Vareli.
Khambatta made her Bollywood début in Director K. A. Abbas’s Bambai “Raat Ki Bahon Mein” (1967), playing cabaret singer Lily who croons the film’s title track.
Later she made cameo in Hollywood movies like Conduct Unbecoming and The Wilby Conspiracy. She went on to have a brief movie career that included the role for which she is most recognized, the bald Deltan navigator Lieutenant Ilia, in Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979).
Persis Khambatta along with William Shatner presented the Oscar for Documentary at the 52nd Academy Awards in 1980.
