Saif Ali Khan: Phantom has nothing to do with Hafiz Saeed

“Honestly it has nothing to do with Hafiz Saeed or politics. It is about kind of films one likes, loves and acts in them” says Saif Ali Khan during a media interaction.

Kabir Khan next epic action outing “Phantom” produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and Siddharth Roy Kapur, starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles, landed in controversial soup post trailer launch.

Jamat-ud-Dawah chief Hafiz Saeed filed a petition in the high court seeking a ban on the release of forthcoming Bollywood movie Phantom in Pakistan, alleging that it contains “filthy propaganda” against his country. But Actor squashed all the rumours and clearly states that he wanted to work with Kabir Khan.

“It is dream combination for me in many ways. Sajid Naidadwala, he is someone who makes big and exciting films. He is passionate about movies. The Scale of Phantom is outstanding. We have shot it in Europe and America. It doesn’t come across as documentary, Patriotic, Polemic, terrorism movie” says Saif Ali.

“Then the script was great. It is page turner. It is a fast moving story and lastly Kabir Khan, with whom I have meaning to work with for a very long time. He offered me Kabul Express, but it didn’t work out, he offered me New York but I choose Kurbaan instead, than I did Agent Vinod and he did “EK Tha Tiger”, we like the same kind of movies” adds Saif.

Saif Ali Khan is noted for his roles in Romantic movies, but never had any success in action movies. His big budget action movies, didn’t find the success at box-office but now Saif is hoping to change all that with Phantom.

“The Roles I have done in Romantic films have been for young and confused boys. It is not right to play all those roles all the times. You have to aim for something little more mature, something that suits you. Phantom is a dream Idea” says Saif.

The film is about the post-26/11 attacks in Mumbai and global terrorism. The screenplay of the film has been written in co-ordination with author Hussain Zaidi, and is an adaptation of his book Mumbai Avengers.

The trailer was released on 25 July 2015. The film is scheduled for release on 28 August 2015.
